Dogs are much like a model with only one look. It is difficult to capture different expressions without a lot of patience and shooting. Fortunately I have a backyard that provides lighting from the west with the house shading the east. This is a nice combination for shooting in the morning. By taking a little bit of time when possible, I can eventually get enough shooting time to see some different expressions -- at least to me!
Of course, some models are better at posing. For me this means that the dog holds a pose long enough for me to focus and compose. By far, Riley is the most cooperative of our four dogs. While the others are constantly hopping around or walking with their nose in the grass, Riley will intensely stare in perfect poses while keeping watch over her domain.
